Voir est savoir
We are the Laboratoire d’Optique biomedicale at EPFL in Switzerland, a group of researchers and enthusiasts of microscopy, optics and biomedical imaging. Following our motto „Voir est
savoir“ and our conviction that the images from our research can be considered as works of art. We organized an exposition in Lausanne and created this website to present a gallery of our images of cells, cerebral and pancreatic structures.
Our gallery invites you to visualise our images of the vascularization and structure of both the brain and islet of Langerhans, and last but not least super-resolved cell images. Most of our images are 3D structures, where the depth dimension is color coded. You are invited to download these images. Please don’t forget to cite the corresponding paper when you are about to embellish your science. If you wish to acquire one of these images with a higher print quality, please contact us. We are pleased to provide you an offer for original, high definition high quality printed images on request.
The Laboratoire d’Optique Biomedicale (LOB) is a research group at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland.
The LOB projects are focused on optical functional imaging methods for applications in the life sciences and medicine.
Current topics of interest are:
- Single molecule detection and imaging with enhanced confinement applied to biofunctional studies & membrane signalling.
- Microscopy towards high lateral resolution and nonlinear microscopy for cell and tissue imaging.
- Optical Coherence Tomography and Laser Doppler Imaging with various medical applications as diabetes, neurosurgery etc.
- These application-oriented projects in interdisciplinary areas of photonics, medicine and life sciences are integrated in national and international research collaborations within academia and industry.
An essential part of our efforts is devoted to teaching and education in micro-engineering and life sciences. Our laboratory participates in postgraduate courses in Applied Photonics and a master course in microscopy. This lecturing is complemented by several diploma and semester projects during the academic calendar. In addition, our laboratory participates in offering graduate level courses in Biomicroscopy and in Optical Design Methods. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
